- August is Summer Sun Safety Month. No matter how high a SPF your sunscreen has – it doesn’t last all day. Reapply sunscreen hourly and after swimming, sweating, or toweling off. If your skin is red, cover it up! Burns get worse overtime – even a little pink can be blistered.
- Swimming is fun and good exercise. Be safe around water. Avoid horse play. Never swim alone. If you see someone in trouble in the water – REACH for them, THROW them an object to help them float, ROW a boat to them and, as last resort, GO in after them.
- August is National Immunization Awareness Month. Adults as well as children need immunizations. Check with your health provider to see what immunizations you need. It is better to prevent disease than treat it.
- End of summer means a return to school. Be especially diligent and safety aware of school zones, cross walks, school buses, walkers, runners, hikers, and car poolers.
- Getting enough sleep is important to many aspects of your health. Avoid TV, computers, phones, and other sources of artificial light for 30-60 minutes before going to bed. This invites Mr. Sandman to say good night, sleep tight.
